Enhancing Prime Lamb Production using Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) Project.
SheepMetriX are coordinating this Prime Lamb Sire Evaluation as part of an integrated MLA R&D Producer Demonstrate Project, which commenced in January 2026. The aim of the project is to capture the genetic differences between sires for key traits, both on-farm and across the supply chain, including growth, animal health, emissions intensity, and meat eating quality, using the new combined LAMBPLAN evaluation.
Why are Sire Evaluations Important…
Provide objective data on sire performance for key production, health, eating quality and emissions traits.
Support informed ram selection decisions using ASBVs and genomics.
Benchmark genetics within and across flocks and supply chains.
Improve productivity, profitability and processor compliance outcomes.
Accelerate genetic gain and adoption of the combined LAMBPLAN evaluation.
Evaluating some of LAMBPLANs most exciting Sire’s:
Working with terminal and maternal stud ram breeders across Australia…
Host Location: Bowning NSW
Ewe Base Bloodline: Yarrawonga merino ewes
Number of Sire Entrants: 14 (including 2 link Sires
Number of Ewes to AI: 580
