Enhancing Prime Lamb Production using Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) Project.

SheepMetriX are coordinating this Prime Lamb Sire Evaluation as part of an integrated MLA R&D Producer Demonstrate Project, which commenced in January 2026. The aim of the project is to capture the genetic differences between sires for key traits, both on-farm and across the supply chain, including growth, animal health, emissions intensity, and meat eating quality, using the new combined LAMBPLAN evaluation.

Why are Sire Evaluations Important…

  • Provide objective data on sire performance for key production, health, eating quality and emissions traits.

  • Support informed ram selection decisions using ASBVs and genomics.

  • Benchmark genetics within and across flocks and supply chains.

  • Improve productivity, profitability and processor compliance outcomes.

  • Accelerate genetic gain and adoption of the combined LAMBPLAN evaluation.
